Sue Park

Korean and WEL territories

Sue Park received a BA in English from NYU and an MFA in poetry from the University of Texas at Austin. She began her publishing career working at Irene Goodman Agency, Indolent Books, and Bat City Review, and started out as a literary agent who specializes in Korean literature by selling WEL rights to Snowglobe by Soyoung Park. She’s currently with Barbara J. Zitwer Agency and runs Charm Agency on the side.

She’s also a freelance writer and translator who’s known as her full name, Suphil Lee Park. She is the author of Present Tense Complex, winner of Marystina Santiestevan Poetry Prize, and debuted as a fiction writer in 2021 by winning the Indiana Review Fiction Prize for her short story. Barbara Zitwer

WEL territories

Barbara’s a literary agent based in New York who’s single-handedly led for the last twenty two years the K-Wave movement in literature by introducing Korea’s representative writers, such as Han Kang, Kyung-Sook Shin, JM Lee, You-Jeong Jeong, Sunmi Hwang, Lee Geum-yi, among many others. She was honored as This Year’s International Agent in 2016 and received a Minister’s Commendation from South Korea.

She also worked with film and off-broadway shows, and is the author of JM Barrie Ladies’ Swimming Society, which was also published in Korea, and of The Korean Book of Happiness, a nonfiction book about Korean culture forthcoming from Short Books.

Emily Hayward Whitlock

Film/TV rights

Emily’s with The Artists Partnership, a respected British film/TV right agency for actors, writers, and directors. Catherine Tate, who Korean people know from The Office and Doctor Who, is one the agency’s many actors. Emily leads the book adaptation department and specializes in everything that has to do with film and TV adaptations of books.

Whitney Hsu

Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia

Whitney has worked as a literary agency since 2003 and specializes in complex Chinese characters territories. She also handles Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Indonesian, and Mongolian territories. She received an MA in publishing and worked as a journalist in Taiwan before she became an agent. She’s known for her expertise with the notoriously complicated bureaucracy and accounting of Taiwan.

You can expect to run into her at any big literary events whether they’re in London, Frankfurt, Bologna, Beijing, Shanghai, or New York.

Gabriella Ambrosioni

Italy

Gabriella was based in Bologna until 2019, but recently moved her agency to Milan. She specializes in Italian territories, and before she became an agent, worked for a publishing house for eight years. She’s a co-founder and director of ADALI, Italy’s first national association of agents. It’s impossible to find a better agent than her in all of Italy.

Jelena Todosijevic

East Europe, Russia, Greece

Jelena’s with Pravda i prevodi, one of the world’s biggest agencies that was founded in 1990. P&P handles more than 50,000 titles, and Jelena, accordingly, is a veteran with a wide array of titles she handles, from fiction and nonfiction to YA.

Anoukh Foerg

Germany

Anoukh has worked as an agent since 2009. He specializes in translated titles and introduces a select list of German writers to the world. He’s unrivaled in German territories, a notoriously difficult market to break into.

Jackie Huang

Simplified Chinese territories

Jackie specializes in simplified Chinese characters territories. She’s based in Beijing.

Filiz Karaman

Turkey

Filiz is based in Istanbul and oversees the Turkish territories, has worked as an agent since 1971, and with international publishers, agencies, and writers.

Bernat Fiol

Spain, Latin America, Portugal, Brazil

Bernat has worked as an agent since 2008 and specializes in Spanish and Portuguese territories. He’s the agent who introduce Won-Pyun’s Sohn’s Almond to Spanish readers and made it a bestseller. He’s based in Barcelona.

Deborah Harris

Israel

Deborah worked in New York publishing before she moved to Jerusalem in 1979. Ever since, she’s worked as an agent and has been on the board of Jerusalem International Book Fair for the last twenty years. She’s also a co-founder of Jerusalem Film and TV Fund association. She was recognized with the Jerusalem’s Friend Award back in 2011 and was selected as This Year’s International Agent in 2018.

Ken Mori

Japan

Ken oversees Tuttle-Mori, Japan’s one of the biggest literary agencies, and the oldest. He imports and exports various kinds of 2-D contests, including manga.

Donatella d’Ormesson

France

Donatella specializes in French copyright. She’s introduced countless Korean authors to French readers.

Monique Oosterhof

Scandinavia, Netherlands, Holland

Monique has worked since 2007 as a literary agency. For over 30 years, she was also in Dutch and Scandinavian publishing, including Arena and De Arbeiderspers. She currently scouts for international publishers and also works as an agent for many authors.
